How to Prepare Your Home for Professional Pressure Washing

Booking a professional exterior cleaning service is one of the best things you can do for your home’s curb appeal and long-term maintenance. To make sure your Curbology Exteriors technicians can do their best work — and to protect your property — there are a few simple steps to take before we arrive. Most preparation takes less than 30 minutes and makes a significant difference in the quality and efficiency of your service.

Before Your Service Day: What to Do

1. Close All Windows and Doors
This seems obvious, but it’s the most important step. Make sure every window, door, and vent is fully closed before cleaning begins. Even soft wash applications use water, and an open window invites moisture into your home. Double-check basement windows, garage side doors, and pet doors.

2. Remove or Relocate Outdoor Furniture and Decor
Move patio furniture, potted plants, outdoor rugs, doormats, garden ornaments, and any other moveable items away from areas being cleaned. If something can’t be moved, let us know in advance and we’ll work around it carefully.

3. Secure Pets and Children Indoors
Our equipment generates significant water flow and noise. Keep pets and children inside during the service to ensure their safety and allow our team to work without interruption.

4. Disconnect Outdoor Electrical Items
Unplug and store any electrical items outdoors — string lights, outlet covers, fans, or extension cords. Water and electricity are never a good combination.

5. Notify Us of Known Issues
If you know of any damaged siding, broken window seals, loose trim, or problem areas on your home, let us know before we start. We’ll take extra care in those areas or avoid them if needed.

Protecting Your Landscaping

Our biodegradable cleaning solutions are formulated to be plant-safe, and our technicians always pre-wet and post-rinse landscaping when soft washing your home. However, there are a few things that can help:

  • Water your garden beds the morning of your service — well-hydrated plants are more resilient to incidental chemical exposure.
  • Cover delicate plantings near the foundation with plastic sheeting if you have particularly sensitive specimens.
  • Move container plants away from the cleaning area to eliminate risk entirely.

On the Day of Service

  • Make sure outdoor spigots are accessible — our team needs water access for the job.
  • Park vehicles away from the work area — move cars out of driveways being cleaned and away from the home when siding is being washed.
  • Be available for a quick walkthrough — before we start, we’ll do a quick property walk with you to confirm the scope of work and any special areas to note.

After Your Service

Within hours of your cleaning, surfaces will be noticeably brighter and cleaner. Allow cleaned concrete and siding to dry fully (usually 24 hours) before placing furniture back on driveways or patios.
